Commissioned Artwork
Mike Kelly works almost exclusively on commissioned art. He typically works from
client-supplied photos or, if the budget allows, he will take photos himself. Prices
vary considerably, depending on the size of the painting, on how many vehicles
are in the artwork and the type of background in the painting. Prices for a complete
gouache (opaque watercolor) painting range from approximately $800 to $3,000,
unframed. He prefers to concentrate more fully on the subject vehicles and not on
complicated or realistic backgrounds since this is the most efficient and effective
use of his time. The backgrounds typically are abstract "washes" of color, or solid

Basically, the commission process is as follows:
Photos of the vehicle(s) and deposit (30%) are sent to the artist at client's
expense. (If no photos available, Mike Kelly can take his own photos for reference
with travel and other expenses paid by the client.) In rare cases, the artist will use
existing general reference of a particular vehicle and then, using the client's
description, render it to look as close as possible to the subject vehicle.
The typical turn-around time for a painting is about one month depending on the
artist's schedule. Larger portraits may take up to two months. Expected completion
date will be confirmed at the time of commission.
Portraits are priced unframed. A 30% deposit is due at the time of ordering, with
final balance required at the time of shipping. Shipping expenses are paid by the
client.

A signed agreement is required before the painting will be started. Copyright
remains with the artist and artwork may be used by artist for print marketing and
for promotional purposes. The artist may refuse any photographs he feels will not
represent the subject well. Copyrighted photographs must be accompanied by
